Find A Vet
Finding a rabbit-savvy vet to treat your rabbit is very important.
Rabbits are exotic animals requiring specialized care and not all vets
are qualified to treat rabbits. When sick, a rabbit's health can
deteriorate very rapidly, so finding a vet before you need one is
critical.
It's always wise to know beforehand who you can turn to in times of
medical need for your bunny. To search for vet listings, please
go here. Please read the following documents and
keep in mind some advice when calling potential vets to interview them:
Explain that you want to ask the vet a series of questions and ask
them to call you back at their convenience to talk. Often the vet's office
is busy and you shouldn't expect them to drop everything to talk to you -
after all, there might be an animal there who really needs their attention.
There are some questions the receptionist may be able to answer for you,
such as how many rabbits see the vet on average in a given amount of
time - ask if the receptionist has the time to answer a few questions
before just starting, because the office may be busy.
Knowing the answers to certain questions before a possible emergency
ever arises not only decreases the amount of emotional turmoil
experienced but will likely make a difference in the ultimate outcome
for the rabbit. As prosaic as it sounds, the best way to deal with an
emergency is to prepare well before one occurs.
This is a listing of general vets in the United States, Puerto Rico,
Guam, North Mariana Island, Virgin Islands, Australia, Canada, France,
and the Philippines.
There are many factors to consider when choosing a vet. The Humane
Society's guidelines can help you find a vet who will keep you happy
and your pet healthy for years to come.
