Update May 15, 2006: Penny has had her dental surgery and came through with flying
colors. She has put on weight and is being spayed. What a LOVE, she
is.
Update: We are happy to report that Penny is eating on her own, and showing us
just what an amazing spirit she has. Despite what she has been thru,
Penny loves kisses, being held, and adores attention. It will be
awhile in rehab for Penny, but we expect she will do great, and be
looking forward to a home filled with love.
Penny came to us in a clear case of severe neglect. She is a young
carmel colored Jersey Wooly. We were stunned to see the condition she
was in. (Please note - the first three images show penny in much better
condition after being seen by a vet and given just a little TLC).
A 3 inch long bottom tooth protruded from her mouth, with fur wrapped
around it. Her top incisors were crossed inside her mouth, sticking
out the sides. Inside her mouth, a half dollar sized wad of rotted fur
was removed from her throat, and twisted around her teeth. Every bone
could be felt, as she was starving to death. Her eyes were crusted,
and fur gone from her inner legs and stomach.
Penny was taken to the vet ASAP, where her teeth were clipped, molar
spurs filed, fluids given and cleaned up. Mouth ulcers were
discovered, and her jaw is somewhat misaligned due to the teeth.
She is receiving antibiotics, and force feeding. She will eventually
have the teeth removed.
Penny can use your support. If you would like to help, please consider
sponsoring Penny, she will be ever so grateful!!
(Heartbreakingly, Penny's history is one we see far too often. People
moving and no longer wanting her. Taken by neighbors, and given as a
birthday present to another neighbor's child.)
Special thanks to the following people for helping sponsor Penny's
medical needs:
