The Easter Bunny
The Briar Patch
The Rainbow Bridge
Abandoned
In My Cage
by Mary Brandolino
In memory of all the bunnies we couldn't save.
I remember Easter Sunday
It was colorful and fun
The new life that I'd begun
In my new cage.

I was just a little thing
When they brought me from the store
And they put me on the floor
In my cage.

They would take me out to play
Love and pet me all the time
Then at day's end I would climb
In my cage.

But as days and weeks went by
I saw less of them it seemed
Of their loving touch I dreamed
In my cage.

In the night outside their house
I felt sad and so neglected
Often scared and unprotected
In my cage.

In the dry or rainy weather
Sometimes hotter sometimes colder
I just sat there growing older
In my cage.

The cat and dog raced by me
Playing with each other only
While I sat there feeling lonely
In my cage.

Upon the fresh green grass
Children skipped and laughed all day
I could only watch them play
From my cage.

They used to take me out
And let me scamper in the sun
I no longer get to run
In my cage.

Once a cute and cuddly bunny
Like a little ball of cotton
Now I'm grown up and forgotten
In my cage.

I don't know what went wrong
At the home I did inhabit
I just grew to be a rabbit
In my cage.

But they've brought me to the pound
I was once loved and enjoyed
Now I wait to be destroyed
In my cage.

Easter And Bunnies Don't Mix

Please Don't Give Pets As Gifts!!
Shelters and rescues are inundated with animals that were given as gifts to people who didn't really want them and don't know how to take care of them. They expect this year to be no different, beginning on the day after Christmas. Please don't give a live animal as a gift - give a stuffed plush toy instead, or consider making a donation to a rescue or shelter in someone's name as a gift. Just please don't give a live animal as a gift - it requires a lifelong commitment to the pet, and too often they get shortchanged. Thanks!!

This page is dedicated to the rabbits that 3 Bunnies tried to help but did not make it and went to bunny heaven. Each bun that has crossed our path will always have a special place in our hearts.

Flower
November 15, 2007: Flower literally "blossomed" in the short time she was with us, from fearful and growling when we tried to pet her to loving and happy (but still feisty!) She relished her freedom, exploring every nook and cranny of our apartment, climbing all over our furniture. After only a month of living a life every rabbit deserves, e cuniculi attacked her brain. She went into stasis. Every test came back negative, and despite medication, she grew more and more tired, was rapidly losing control of her hind limbs, losing weight and though she bravely struggled to get better, clearly suffering. We loved her as our own and renamed her Miranda (meaning "she who must be admired"), because four years of caged mistreatment and abuse never broke her spirit, and because of her great outer beauty. Flower/Miranda, we will always admire and never forget you. Your spirit will now roam free forever.

Divine
November 11, 2007: Recently 3 Bunnies took in a stray found in Ct. This BIG beautiful white and black spotted New Zealand mix, we named Divine, was filthy and had mites. We had her treated, an she was doing well. However it was noticed she was taking a downward turn. Brought to the vet, xrays revealed major lung problems, and sadly Divine did not make it.

Lois
July 4, 2007: It is with great sadness that we report that Lois passed away from Stasis, or Ileus GI Stasis (for owners and vets). Please read her story by clicking on her link. We love you Lois, and we will miss you.

Blinkers
June 15, 2007: It is with a heavy heart that we report that Blinkers passed away early Friday (6/15/07) morning. Blinkers became full blown symptomatic E. cunniculi/Pasteurella. Her companion Southpaw stayed by her side, even in death. Southpaw is doing ok, though clearly misses his Blinkers. We hope to find him a new mate.
Everyone who sponsored Blinkers helped to let her live a wonderful life, and we thank you all.

Sylvie
June 3, 2007: We are very saddened to report that Sylvie passed quickly and suddenly. Her foster mom came home one night to find that she had gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Please read her story by clicking on her link.

Chaka Khan
April 7, 2007: We are very saddened to report that Chaka Khan passed quickly and suddenly. Please read her story by clicking on her link.

Google
January 21, 2007: We are very sad to report that we lost Google today. Please read his story by clicking on his link.

Gerrianne
December, 2006: It is with great sadness that we report that Gerrianne is no longer with us. Her former neglect was too much for her to recover from, and we tearfully had to say goodbye to a wonderful soul who just didn't get what she deserved in this life. Please visit her page to read her story, and please have a good thought for this gentle soul. We love you and we'll miss you, Gerrianne.

Harmony
September 2, 2006: It is with great sadness that we report that Harmony is no longer with us. She was not doing well, and has crossed over "The Bridge". Banjo, is recovering well, and will be neutered ASAP. We had seperated the two, when first taken in, due to being unaltered male/female, and Harmony needing quiet/healing time. Harmony had several issues and appeared to be older. Now she runs free to play and binky, without any pain or suffering.

Bebe
May 4, 2006: Bebe and Taylor are together again, at the Rainbow Bridge. Her suffering is over, and she is reunited with the love of her life. It's only fitting that you share your dedication, as you did your lives. Bebe, you always looked out for Taylor, showing him the way. You were his vision in his last years and his comfort and warmth til the day he passed. You were a strong, plump little girl until you too, could not hold on to life any longer. Your pain is over now and we hope your last memories on earth were surrounded by those who loved and truly cared for you like you always deserved. Read more.

Robere
We are very saddened to report that Robere passed away in his sleep last night. He had been having some issues with stasis (the silent killer) and he finally lost his battle with it. Please read up on this health problem here: GI Stasis (for owners) and if you ever have to treat it, you may want to offer this article to your vet so they have some very good information too: GI Stasis (for vets)

Taylor
March 22, 2006: It is with deep sadness we report that little precious Taylor has passed over the Rainbow Bridge. Taylor will be missed. His companion, Bebe, is doing ok, and is available for adoption. Bebe is a sweet, gentle girl, with a streak of mischieve, who would love to find a home. She is not ready to rebond, but perhaps with time, might like a new friend. Please read Taylor's story here.

Felicity
Despite our best efforts, sometimes we just can't find a loving home for a bunny before they depart for the Rainbow Bridge. We do our best, we give them the best care we can, we love them, and we try our best to find loving homes for them. But sometimes, they just don't get what they're looking for while they're here. So they leave, they go to a much better place where they are welcomed by bunnies who knew love and share it with them, until the day when we can reunite with them and finally give them the loving forever home that we failed to give them while they were here. We love you, Felicity, we miss you, and we're sorry.

O'Hara
We are very saddened to say that despite our best efforts, we were unable to help O'Hara find the loving home she so desperately deserved before she left for the Rainbow Bridge.. She was very much loved while in our care, and we miss her dearly now that she is gone. She left this world surrounded by love, and she is happily hopping about the meadows of the Bridge with the other bunnies who have gone before her, and we will be joyous in our reunion with her when our time comes. We love you, O'Hara, we miss you, and we're sorry.

Dutchess
August 11, 2005: We ended Dutchess's suffering this afternoon. Xray showed things had gone from bad to worse. She is now at peace across the Rainbow Bridge, and can help others that pass over feel safe and loved. Farewell Sweet Dutchess.
Update: August 10, 2005: We are very saddened to say that unforeseen complications arose during Dutchesses spay, and she is now in a battle to survive. Our vet and 3 Bunnies is doing everything possible to help her pull through. Please send your positive thoughts and support to Dutchess
A stunning orange colored mini lop, 2yrs old, 6-6.5lbs. Dutchess is so sweet and gentle. She adores face rubs and kisses and does not mind being held. Dutchess will come right up to you looking for attention, and also to see if she can assist you in your daily routine (yes, you can learn to do things with a "mushy" bun attached to your leg!)
What we know about her history is that she was taken from an abusive situation by a boy in 4-H (who decided to have rabbits as one of his 4-H "projects", then wanted to move on to goats, so he needed to get rid of the rabbits, UGH!!), sold to a family looking for rabbits, then when they no longer had time for Dutchess, she came to be in 3 Bunnies care.
Dutchess is a wonderful bun, despite her history. When she looks at you with those big soft eyes, and lets you kiss her little heart shaped lips, you just melt!!

Snowflake
July 7, 2005: Today 3 Bunnies was alerted, by a family that stepped in to help, when nearby construction workers found a domestic white rabbit. This gentle, beautiful white New Zealand, about 3 months old, was found with her ankles bound by elastic shoestring and twist tie wire. Her ankles were broken and her feet were dead from lack of blood supply; her thighs dark purple and swollen. This was clearly a deliberate torture.
The family removed the ties from her ankles, and made her comfortable, while waiting for 3 Bunnies to pick her up. They named her Snowflake. We rushed her to the vet, where her suffering was kindly ended. This precious girl never uttered a cry of pain.
Sadly Snowflake's life could not be saved, but she will suffer no more. We light a candle for you Snowflake, and all those buns waiting to be helped.
Please consider making a donation to 3 Bunnies, in honor/memory of Snowflake, so we can continue to help rabbits in need.

Abby
Sometimes bunnies need extra care before being adopted out. Abby was surrendered at a shelter because her owner was going to college. Too bad her owner did not think about her future life before not making a committment to her pet. Abby is almost 3 years old. She was getting depressed being at a shelter too long..a big bun in a small cage. Many big buns get overlooked.
Abby was currently on a diet in foster care as she came into 3 Bunnies very overweight. She is a sweet big girl who prefers a quiet home. Abby has lost her excess weight. A great beautiful girl.
Update: We are very sad to say Abby was doing well in foster care all this time but suddenly took a turn for the worst. She suddenly got very ill and died. Abby will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Sometimes they just don't make it. Health, past living conditions and the unexpected can take our precious rabbits from us. Abby, we love you! We miss you!
